The Famous Grouse Experience near Crieff in Scotland was the first Distillery I ever visited. It’s actually the Glenturret Distillery but none the less a great place to visit. It was a very interesting tour, going through the Whiskey making process, watching the evolution of the Famous Grouse television adverts and of course, whiskey tasting!

It was interesting to learn how all the whiskeys are blended to make Famous Grouse, however I was far more invested in the Famous Grouse’s exploits in the ads. I love it’s theme tune, a little reminiscent of the Pink Panther theme tune, but somehow a little dorky. I don’t know how else to explain it. The Grouse, who I believe is called Gilbert, is quite funny. My favourite was one where there are two mirroring each other, with the tag line ‘make that a double’.
In the car park there is a quite a big statue of the Famous Grouse, posed proudly and was very impressive. Although, looking back at the photo I had with it, I don’t know what I’m looking at.
All in all it was a very fun day.
Patchy’s Update – I believe this place is no longer the Famous Grouse Experience and is now the Glenturret Tour. Also, I don’t think the Grouse Statue is there anymore.
